Fiske Elementary School Library in Lexington, Massachusetts, serves 416 students from kindergarten through fifth grade. The library is home to over 10,000 books as well as educational videos, periodicals, reference material, and CD-ROMS. The Library's computers provide students with the technology to enhance their academic pursuits and access to information outside the school walls.
The goals of the Fiske School Library are to foster the love of reading, teach information literacy skills within the context of the curriculum, enhance classroom curriculum instruction, and provide a wide range of quality children's literature. The Library is managed by Library Media Specialist Linda Corbett, assisted by a dedicated staff of 40 parent volunteers.
Loan Periods:
| Kindergarten | 1 book, due the next week. |
| First Grade | 2 books, due in two weeks. |
| Second Grade | 2 books, due in two weeks. |
| Third through Fifth Grade | 2 books, due in two weeks. At the discretion of Mrs. Corbett, more books may be checked out when needed for Book Buddies, reports, etc. |
| Fines | Although there are no fines for late books, students will not be allowed to check out books once they have reached the maximum for their grade (with exceptions granted by Mrs. Corbett). All books are due back to the Library by the first week in June. Parents must pay for lost or damaged books at the rate of $18 per item. Any unpaid items will result in loss of borrowing priviledges until accounts are settled with the Town. |
